Mahakali River Rafting: A Day-Trip Guide From Mahendranagar

The Mahakali River forms the natural border between Nepal and India along much of Kanchanpur district, and its rapids near Mahendranagar make for one of the best half-day adventure add-ons in the Far-West — one most visitors don't even know exists until they're already here.

What the Rafting Is Like

Expect Grade II–III rapids — enough to be genuinely fun and get you wet, without requiring prior rafting experience. Our runs are guided by certified river guides, with a safety kayak alongside every group and full safety briefing before you get on the water. It's a good fit for families with older children as well as first-time rafters.

Season

Post-monsoon through spring (roughly October–May) gives the most reliable water levels and clearest safety conditions. We don't run trips during the monsoon (June–September) when the river is high, fast and carrying debris.

What's Included

Rafting equipment (life jackets, helmets, paddles), a certified guide, a safety kayak, and a riverside lunch afterward. Transport to the put-in point is arranged separately or bundled if you're booking it alongside a safari.

Pair It With Shuklaphanta

Because the river and the national park sit so close together, most of our guests run this as an add-on to a Shuklaphanta jeep safari — morning safari, afternoon rafting, or the reverse. What to Bring

• Quick-dry clothing and closed-toe sandals or old sneakers
• Sunscreen — there's no shade on the water
• A dry bag or waterproof phone pouch if you want photos
• A change of clothes for after
